STMicroelectronics to exhibit wide-ranging solutions enabling industrial automation at Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific 2023

STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is exhibiting at Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific (ITAP 2023, Booth 2A23) on 18-20 October.

The ST booth will showcase 10 demos from ST and its ecosystem partners in key industrial markets emphasizing Factory Automation using IO-Link technology, wireless connectivity, connected security, a full range of STM32 microcontrollers for industrial applications, and the latest approaches to predictive maintenance and power management.

Factory Automation with IO-Link: The IO-Link automated product line demonstrates ST’s total solution application in a smart factory, utilizing IO-Link technology to manage the digital input/output, sensors, and solenoid air valve driver. Modules in the demos include Digital IO boards, sensor boards, and actuator boards from ST’s Automation Competence Center’s reference demo boards. Factory automation with IO-Link technology can increase production efficiency dramatically while saving energy.

Wireless Connectivity: The market-unique STM32WL long-range sub-GHz wireless system-on-chip (SoC) series features flexible configurations and package options for diverse mass-market applications like smart resources management. ST will feature a water-meter solution from Sindcon IoT Technology Pte Ltd., a smart meter provider based in Singapore. The demo highlights an announced project adding STM32WLE5 LoRaWAN® wireless microcontrollers into Sindcon’s network of more than 50,000 water, gas, and energy meters in Jakarta, Indonesia, enabling remote meter reading that addresses Jakarta’s diverse and expansive landscape of urban and forested terrain. With the STM32WLE5, Sindcon’s retrofitted meters contain an advanced battery management system that can support accurate remote readings for up to 10 years.

Another solution based on STM32WL on display is the LoRaWAN Street light by AVNET. In this demo, the STM32WL is used in a NEMA controller to better operate and monitor streetlights. These solutions are a testament to the versatility and adaptability of the STM32WL series, which is proving to be a driving force behind applications designed to accelerate change and improve our management of energy resources.

STM32 for Industrial Applications: The STM32G4 motor-control kit provides a platform for designing and evaluating 3-phase low-voltage DC brushless motor solutions. The platform firmware library includes examples for sensor-less and sensor-based motor control, as well as support for field-oriented control (FOC) and sinusoidal PWM.

Predictive Maintenance & Power Management: A fully protected USB Power Delivery with STM32+TCPP (Type-C Port Protection) panel demonstrates the multiple USB-C PD use cases, which could include computer peripherals and gaming equipment, on STM32+TCPP by using dedicated NUCLEO and X-NUCLEO boards. With an X-NUCLEO-SNK1M1 board, the demo shows the ability to negotiate PDO as a sink. With an X-NUCLEO-DRP1M1 board, the demo highlights the ability to negotiate PDO switching its power role as a sink or as the source. With the X-NUCLEO-SRC1M1, demonstrates the ability to charge a device negotiating PDO (X-NUCLEO-SNK1M1, X-NUCLEO-DRP1M1, or an external sink device).
